I found myself deviating from my normal subject today because of some disturbing trends that have been brought to my attention by a close friend of mine. Millions of people are struggling financially right now due to the terrible economic climate in the US and around the globe, and many of these desperate people are being scammed and ripped-off every minute in their search to find real work. So why is this important to a heath and wellness writer? For starters, you cannot obtain complete physical and spiritual wellness when your finances are in the dumps... financial problems add to stress, which throws households and relationships into turmoil, destroys self-esteem, and can lead to several other physical problems such as chronic pain, sleeplessness, and much more. You might hear people say things like "money isn't that important to me," but face it, money is nearly as important as oxygen - you've got to have it to survive and it's a vital ingredient for wellness. In an effort to protect the public from these malicious scams, I'll be spending some time in 2009 to bring you more information about real business and work opportunities.

Right now the ratio of scams to real opportunities in the work at home arena is about 30 to 1.... So how do you go about finding a real job these days when there is so much garbage out there? For starters, use a reputable company such as Monster.com. They have made several new changes to their site in the past few months that have streamlined the application process. Most employers have caught on to the power of Monster.com and are posting jobs there. It really is a one-stop shop for everything from temp work to government jobs. Another great source is Craigslist.org. Craigslist is one of the most visited websites in the world, and savvy employers know that. Although both Monster.com and Craigslist do a good job of screening the employers, there are still scammers that sneak through, which leads us to the point of this article.

Here's our list of companies to be cautious of. At the time of this publishing, we've not been able to identify any of these companies as legitimate businesses - Zipoota, Powzop and TBQ Consulting. Honestly, they don't even sound like real companies to begin with. Here are just some of the positions they are advertising to lure you in: investment consultant, secretary, regional account executive, guest services rep, administrative associate, secretary/service rep, and so on. (If you represent one of these companies and can provide some legitimacy, we'll gladly remove you from this article.)

Zipoota and Powzop both will send you an email stating that they didn't receive your resume, and instruct you to follow a link and upload your resume to their website. When you get to their website, you're required to download the Smiley toolbar. I saw this and immediately closed our browser. You should never have to download anything in order to upload a resume. More than likely these fictitious companies are making money from you downloading this toolbar as affiliates and they have no intentions of contacting you about a job. I was not interested in being the guinea pigs for this experiment, so if you want to download the Smiley toolbar and let me know what happens, be my guest. The other scam alert came when visiting their main web sites, which either had no links or contact info or nothing there at all. Reputable companies don't operate websites such as these.

TBQ Consulting has a website that appears to be legitimate however the links do not work. When you apply to their company, you'll receive an email stating that you'll need to obtain your credit report from their preferred source and then upload it along with your resume. They want you to think that the credit report is for "job history," but let's be real here. They will make money when you go to get your credit report, and then they'll have your social security number, personal account numbers, and nearly everything they'll need to steal your identity once you send them your credit report. Great job offer, right? NEVER, EVER send your credit report to anyone for a job. Unfortunately many people will fall for these scams because they are desperate for work. Don't let it be you.

Another company we found making false job offers was Vindale Research ltd, child company of ReigningFire. They have a real working website, but the jobs they are offering don't exist with the company. They are actually trying to get you to sign up to fill out surveys. I don't know about you, but I've never envisioned a secretary or administrative assistant spending their day filling out surveys. Stay far away from online surveys. You're only making someone else rich.

So what about work at home data entry jobs? Do they really exist and are they real jobs? Well, YES, and YES! There are several companies downsizing these days, and with the internet it's become easier for companies to outsource some or all of their data entry jobs, saving them a ton of money in overhead and other related costs. This trend is not going to slow down anytime soon. So where do you find these real data entry jobs and not get scammed? We've tested a few and have come to the conclusion that by far, My-Data-Team is the best source for locating real data entry jobs. They offer excellent training, free software and loads of extras to get you working quickly. They even research and offer other work at home opportunities without being pushy. They'll show you what the real gurus are doing, why they do it, and how you can too, with little to no investment!!
